ABOUT
Roberta Smith, CPA
After completing her undergraduate degree in accounting at George Mason University, Roberta started her career more than 30 years ago with the Big 4 firm formerly known as Coopers & Lybrand. As an auditor, she gained experience addressing the needs of clients in health-care, government, education, not-for-profit, and manufacturing industries. Roberta also did litigation support and bank take-overs.
After leaving the firm, Roberta worked for a large government sponsored entity for several years as a financial analyst before leaving to start her own practice. Over the years, she has a track record of community involvement which includes past service as a soccer coach, an assistant brownie leader, treasurer for a boy scout pack, and Chi Omega Sorority Adviser. She also prepared income tax returns pro-bono through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistant program. In 2002, she was awarded the Business Volunteer of the Year by the Phoenix Business Volunteers in the Arts for her pro-bono work with an arts organization. She has previously served on the board of directors for Ahwatukee Foothills YMCA, Community Nursery School, and Morris Habitat for Humanity.
In 2005, Roberta completed her Master's degree in Business Education at Arizona State University. As an educator committed to furthering personal financial literacy, Roberta taught High School Accounting and Computer Applications. She is extremely proud of her high school students who completed the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and prepared tax returns in the Phoenix, AZ community. Paired with IRS agents, those same students manned the phone lines to answer tax questions as a public service on Univision TV. She also previously managed the Business Economic Concept section of the Uniform CPA exam where she reviewed multiple choice questions and designed and graded written communication prompts. Roberta is currently involved in the Educators Committee of the NJSCPA. She also teaches accounting and computer applications part-time at a local community college.
